Uhh . . . I talk to my plants. When I'm watering them I coo and praise them for being so strong and growing so nicely. "Oh, look at you! You're doing so well! You grew half a centimeter from the last time I saw you! Is the sun too strong? You boys and girls are so happy. Here, I'm watering you! Isn't that nice?"
I like to think this encourages them (it seems to).
They don't know that I'm fattening them up. They have no idea I'm going to eat them.
Do the plants talk back??
ReplyDeleteNo, they just wave at me.
ReplyDeleteI feel guilty about my garden! The first few times I "harvested" I wondered if the others would notice and get angry. But they don't seem to care; They seem to have more of a dog eat dog mentality: "More room for me!"
ReplyDeleteI know, I feel so bad when I cut sprigs off the cilantro. These are my children! I want them to grow, not die! It's akin to cutting off your son's finger, knowing he has nine more, and then eating it!
ReplyDeleteWell, okay, similar. But they do so compete. Plant Bullies (hey, there's a band name!) They do the same thing we do -- try to crowd each other out and hog the sun.
But they are my children and I will tolerate their behaviour.
Then I'll eat them.
