I’ve written about Montreal being cool. Come on, people, I’m not even Canadian. But one of the coolest Montrealers, and I risk being hilariously out of date — is Gino Vannelli. As Montrealers, you should be very proud of him.
While not a Montrealer, I have to agree - about Montreal being cool, yes - love it, especially during the Jazz Fest - AND about Gino! So I'll be out of date with you, Nick! Gino is the most amazing musical genius...and I am not using the word genius loosely! Anytime Gino performs in Montreal, I'm there - and I live in Philly, PA.
Damn, Denise, well you have a new Best Friend, and so you should. I have been insane about Gino since about 1975, and if he ever sets foot here again I'll be there . . . one of the the last times I saw him was when he performed with my friend the bass player for the MSO at that horrible venue Salle Wilfrid Pelletier . . . and then happily at the Spectrum (I'm too old for these things, but never for Gino)
Any time you want to be in town and be part of a cheering section I'm there with bells and whistles on. And that is a guarantee!
It's a deal! I'll be there - wouldn't miss seeing Gino for the world! I was at both of those concerts as well and blown AWAY by the MSO! To see Gino up there performing, the sound of the orchestra plus band...GOD, DON'T get me started!! Definitely one of my favorite Gino concerts! Gino still has a huge fan base down here in Philly/NJ - hell, whenever I go to a concert, I know I'll be meeting people from all parts of the US as well as around the world. The last concert in Atlantic City, I met a couple who were visiting the US from Saudia Arabia and another couple from Germany...there to see Gino!
You're on my playlist because Gino is definitely in the pantheon of best all-around acts -- if you're into jazz, classical and rock, which pretty much covers it all -- and happen to also be a musician (which I still think I am -- check out the Nick music links on the page) so although I won't go so far as to follow him from country to country, whenever he's in Montreal,
