Aside from the fact that we've had no major plane crashes with fatalities in, oh, about eight years now -- a record considering that just in 1948 there were twelve, count 'em, twelve major disasters of US aircraft alone when there were, oh, maybe 30,000 less flights per day, bad things do happen to good aircraft.
Consider this post by Joe Sharkey, a legend in the airline community, and my comment following it.
It behooves you, yes, you, to carefully follow ALL the safety instructions provided by the crew before takeoff, and ignore those asinine travelog lists of how to survive long plane journeys by "stretching your legs about the cabin" as if it were some kind of cruise ship.
Just observe the consequences of not having your seatbelt tightly fastened at all times except when you MUST go to the restroom.
And THAT sort of thing happens with frightening regularity. You may not die, but you might certainly wish you had.
There have been lots of plane crashes with lots of fatalities in the last 8 years ... for example air france.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but not within the United States. And the fatal ones mostly involved regional jets.
ReplyDeleteBut generally the last "major" incident in N. America was the American Airlines crash in New York a month after 9/11.
