The above is a painting done from a poster that we bought, by the miracle-working Jack Lee and the folks at Europic Art.
I've had them do at least 5 paintings so far, and they're absolute geniuses.
So I have a new project -- while in New York a while back I took some photos from the Empire State building. I've messed with them in Photoshop and now have to decide which one to make into a 72" painting. Which would you pick? (Click for larger version)

Me, I am liking number 6. But they are all pretty cool! Number 10 is my next fav.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny -- I really like #5 because of its weird, misty futuristic look.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm apprehensive about sending any of them . . . I've been a fine artist before and I can imagine that unless you're a superfast genius this could easily take a month of 8-hour days.
I guess I'll just have to submit them to see what Jack says, or maybe zoom in to a detailed section to make it a bit less onerous . . .
If you counted I think there would be about 12,000 windows alone . . . minimum.
#6 is almost insane -- it looks like some obsessed abstract painter's nightmare. If you look at it from a distance it looks like a Lego development created by 2,300,000 robots all programmed to build on some insane grid. But then blur your eyes and it becomes some bizarre cubist Utopian universe in which everyone got together and somehow conspired to all build vast anthills all in some little-understood but mutually agreed-upon pattern.
ReplyDeleteAmazing.
Nick,
ReplyDeleteSo which did you end up choosing?
Me? I was conceived in NYC and am a newly transplanted Canadian, so they are all good.
I (heart) New York!
We haven't actually chosen one. Brigitte seems intent on doing several of them as photos instead of just one as a painting.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, I'm working on different versions . . .
