The Summer Roll/My Feet Hurt like Fuck Update

The good news: Wow. Those rolls, even though I ate them not 'alf an hour ago, are calling to me ALREADY for a late-night snack.

The bad news: They were a fucking bitch to make. I had to bring my laptop, the latest in a series of horrorshows, in to be looked at on Jean-Talon (non-Montrealers, just tune out. It's far enough to be annoying). Had to take the metro for the first time in several years because Brigitte has now been just about reduced to not being able to drive. Still, it was a magnifico day, but I did an awful lot of walking -- I hate to be the hypochondriac but my heels are screaming for two triple injections of novocaine as I type. I'd rather have a root canal, and now I understand the excruciating horror Brigitte goes through in her daily effort to move around (no, we still don't know what's wrong but we have an appointment with the Montreal Neuro next week).

After I dropped that off, I walked ten blocks to our old favorite Vietnamese to get some satay sauce, since Brigitte thought the stuff I served last night was too "curry-like." Nooo problem -- I still have my Naga Jolokia sauce and that's what I put on my summer rolls anyway, so it don't matter to me what she likes on hers (for the record, it was extremely bland).

So I walked another half-mile to the Asian store to get all the ingredients (photos and recipe tomorrow, I promise) and by the time I got home I was pretty walked-out. But then I spent the next seven hours preparing the rolls (I'm slow, but also with many interruptions).

But the good news made it all worth it. I bought some horrible cheap saké, which I will never buy again except as a liniment, but the rolls were exquisite.

Now I just have to find my way to drink myself into oblivion to get rid of this pain. I swear, if they did root canals on feet, I'd be at the front of the line.

One more can of 7% lemon "Popper" or maybe two, two arthrotec and two Zopiclone and maybe all will be right with the world.

Oh -- last good news -- this is being typed in bed on my brand-new, deeper-in-credit MacBook.
